This is a newly founded programming initiative started by Black students—both graduate and undergraduate—on the cusp of the Covid crisis. The center, directed by African History Professor, Dr. Mhoze Chikowero, has brought robust programming for African issues in internal and invited talks, bringing artists, supporting Black student gardening, writing and community building. It has helped retain many students at UCSB, and attracted many others, especially graduate students from Africa, and it is a center for collective thinking and growth for students, faculty and community members.
