DIVErsity in Diving Program
Applications have opened for the 2024–2025 cohort of the DIVErsity in Diving program (DDP). This program is focussed on diversifying our pool of scientific research SCUBA divers at UCSB and providing research opportunities in Marine Sciences. This will mark the third year of the program and we are excited for the success so far.
The fundamental goal of DDP is to lower the financial, cultural and other barriers to scientific diving for UCSB students, particularly but not exclusively for students from groups underrepresented in the marine sciences (e.g., Hispanic-Latinx, African American, Native American/Native Alaskan and Pacific Islanders; US Veterans; individuals with disabilities that do not disqualify them from obtaining medical clearance to dive).

In addition to financing the steps in dive training (e.g. recreational certification, gear purchases, training dives, AAUS certification), we anticipate offering a paid fellowship(s) in research labs at UCSB. We anticipate accepting 3 or 4 students in 2024–2025.
