Michael D. Young

Dr. Young served as vice chancellor for student affairs at UC Santa Barbara for twenty-five years. In this role, he oversaw twenty-five departments in the Division of Student Affairs including those that provide services and programs to promote students’ physical and emotional well-being, and he became a national leader in providing student mental health services on campuses.

The Michael D. Young Endowed Fund for Scholarship, Leadership and Citizenship in the Division of Student Affairs was established by Dr. Young's colleagues, friends, and UCSB alumni to honor his dedicated service to students during his 25-year career as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UC Santa Barbara. Funding priorities will be for Student Affairs services and programs that support low-income, underserved, and first-generation college students and initiatives that promote student mental health and wellness.
