The Black Men's Barbershop Talk Series aims to foster a space where Black male-identifying students and staff can come together to discuss their individual and collective experiences as well as other relevant topics that are pertinent to the Black community as a whole.
It is designed to be a safe space for Black male students, allowing for free expression, mental health check-ins, and professional development, while ultimately creating a more connected Black community on campus. More specifically this program seeks to:
- Be a support space for Black male identified students to build community, uplift each other during times of challenge/success and increase access to emotional expressiveness
- To encourage the cultivation of holistic wellness (mind, body, spirit)
- To engage in healthy/inclusive/culturally informed practices of building authentic connections with other black males
- To identify/promote healthy and inclusive ideas/practices in regards to Black masculinity
- To promote healthy connections with Black women and the Black LGBTQ+ community
- To engage in meaningful dialogue about issues relevant to Black males and more broadly the Black/African diaspora.
- To build sustainable networks with Black staff, faculty and community members
