Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s National History
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity inc. was founded on December 4th, 1906 at Cornell University Ithaca, New York by 7 phenomenal black male college students who were desirous of creating and maintaining a strong black community. Henry A. Callis, Charles H. Chapman, Eugene K. Jones, George B. Kelley, Nathaniel A. Murray, Robert H. Ogle, and Vertner W. Tandy were scholarly young men who we refer to as our “Jewels.” They built this fraternity on the ideals of manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind as we pride ourselves in the execution of our mission statement. We develop leaders, promote brotherhood, and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy for our communities. Not only do we strive to advocate for the black community, we work as servants of all. Currently, the fraternity has 70,000 members in our ranks.
