The Education of African Americans: The Road to Parity in the United States
To achieve educational equity for African American students, it is essential to explore and analyze the theoretical frameworks and research specifically focused on their development and learning experiences in the United States. The notion that a single, universally applicable pedagogy can effectively address the needs of African American students is fraught with challenges, particularly in light of the historical and ongoing shifts within this community. This symposium will delve into six key theories, Abolitionist, Afrocentricity, Afro-pessimism, Black Studies, Healing-centered and Hip-hop pedagogies, and examine their practical applications for African American learners in the U.S.
Each panelist will present, followed by a Q & A for the attendees.
