Annual Celebration of the Black Gaucho Family Weekend (CBGFW)
Celebration of the Black Gaucho Family Weekend, in conjunction with UCSB’s Parent & Family Weekend provides a safer space for diverse Black & African Gaucho families and students to celebrate and cultivate a sense of community. Through culturally centered practices (i.e. libations, African drumming, etc.) Black students and families will gain a greater awareness of how UCSB supports Black students' cultures and holistic development through social, cultural, academic and other types of resources, events, and services. Through fellowshipping over cultural cuisine, music, entertainment, and other activities, Black Gaucho students and families will strengthen their identities as Black Gauchos and develop social ties to support their development as UCSB students.
At the Celebration of the Black Gaucho Family Weekend students and families will:
- Achieve a greater sense of community
- Network with student, staff, faculty, and alumni campus community members to cultivate relationships of mutual support
- Celebrate Black Gaucho history and academic culture
- Access campus resources to support Black Gaucho students' holistic well-being
- Celebrate the cultural diversity of the UCSB African diasporic communities
- Be introduced EOP's and the AdCRC's people and services
